Working Out

Working Out

Working out……what’s that all about?

Broadly speaking, it’s exercising; doing something with your body that raises your heart rate and puts your body into motion by using your muscles to burn calories.

Working out (using your muscles and burning calories) can come in all flavors: mowing your yard, pruning rose bushes or trees, playing with your children, walking your dog, swimming, biking, weight training, etc, etc.

The big concept for continued fitness improvement and benefit is to keep doing it. Consistency is key! For that reason, give it parameters that will make it sustainable.

Here we go:

Before you get into anything hardcore, check with your doctor if you have any medical conditions which should hold you back or moderate what/how you do stuff. When you’re good to go, here are some parameters to consider:

1. Total fitness should focus on both aerobic and strength conditioning.

2. Of course, your end goal may have you focus one of these but they both should be considered.

3. Shoot to work out for at least 2 hours per week.

Make doing the workout convenient; it has to fit into your schedule. Personally, I like working out in the morning. Maybe it’s more convenient for you in the evening. It doesn’t matter when, as long as you can be consistent.

I’ll go over these 3 parameters in more detail in the next newsletter. In the meantime, start thinking about your goal. Make it yours and make it fun!
